PRESERVING OUR PAST WITH
CEREMONIAL TRADITION
In 1915
the Marshals became a Temple Unit under the leadership of Alfred Russell and Colonel
Walter Fisher. In the beginning, membership was restricted to Armed Forces Veterans. Now
any Noble of Medinah Temple is eligible to become a Marshal.
The
Marshals have always conducted the Novices through the Initiation Ceremonial and are the
first to come in contact with new members. The Marshals greet and welcome participants at
the annual Medinah Picnic, direct parking for Hospital Days and participate in Parades.
The Unit serves the Potentate in special assignments and other duties.
The
Illustrious Sir, Gene Strutz, Potentate of 1987 came up through the Marshal's ranks.
Currently, the Marshal Unit is headed by Marshal Emil Dicks.
The
Marshal Unit of Medinah works with the Temple in several ways:
- The Unit
participates in Ceremonials by helping new candidates and with Temple ritual.
- The Unit
is active in Medinah Parades.
- The Unit
acts as official registrars at Medinah Picnics and other events.
- The Unit
participates in Shrine Club Official Visits.
Meetings
occur several times a year to coordinate and plan. We meet at various restaurants and at
the Shrine.
Monetary
commitments are nominal, there are no dues for the first year and $20.00 per year after
that, and time commitments vary as needed by Medinah. Help is always needed for
Ceremonials, the Annual Picnic and Hospital Days.
