The purpose of HOPS is to support Medinah Shrine and promote the good of Shrinedom and Brotherhood in general
The H.O.P.S. membership is made up of Shriner’s and is designed to assist them in their hobby of home brewing beer / wine making / distilling / tasting / and other related activities and to increase the awareness of the quality and variety of craft beverages (either non-alcoholic or alcoholic) such as, but not limited to: Beer, Wine, Liquor, Cider, Mead, or Soda.
While the majority of our members are non-brewers, we still get together and have “outings” at various breweries and wineries throughout the Chicagoland area. These “outings” are designed to tour their establishments, learn of their methodology of making their products, and to sample their refreshments.
If you are a member of a Masonic Lodge and would like to join us at one of our outings, please contact us and we would be happy to extend you an invitation.
It all started when a few Nobel men were sitting around with a pint in hand thinking they should start a club around craft beverages. Humulus – is the scientific name for hops, Ossified – is a term used during prohibition times.
Is the study or practice of fermentation in brewing, winemaking, or distilling.
We get together while sharing craft refreshments in order to promote brotherhood, improve our knowledge of craft refreshments, raise funds for the Shriners Hospitals, and have fun!!!
